CHARACTER INFO
Name: Armaros
Age: Old. He looks like he's in his late 20s or mid 30s, though.
Species: Angel | Grigori

Series: El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron
OU/AU: OU
Canon Point: End of the game, after Enoch frees him from his Dark Form. Armaros is still alive.
History: El Shaddai is based off of a (very loose) interpretation of The Book of Enoch. Long ago, God assigned a group of angels known as the Grigori, or Watchers, the duty of watching over a new and burgeoning humanity. Unfortunately, the Grigori decided to defect from Heaven and live among humans. To do this, they made a pact with Belial, a being born of the Darkness (essentially Hell) and they stole the Fruits of Wisdom from Heaven and went to live among humans in a tower that was nestled in a pocket dimension, hidden from the eyes of the Lord.

The Fruits of Wisdom were used to teach humanity things that they were supposed to learn gradually on their own, causing humanity to advance at a ridiculous pace, much sooner than the Earth could handle that level of rapid progress. Because of this, the fallen angels were seen as gods (yet another blasphemous act in the eyes of the Lord). In addition, the now fallen angels mated with a number of human women and gave rise to the Nephilim, beings that are cursed to a tormented existence of cannibalizing one another and turning into giant monstrosities that lay waste to the Earth.

Due to this entire clusterfuck, the Council of Elders decided to flood the world since nobody could find the tower that housed the fallen angels. And by 'flood the world', yes that is referring to the flood in the story of Noah's Ark. However Enoch, a human working as a scribe in Heaven, would not have this because it's flooding the Earth and plead with the Council to reconsider. So they did. Enoch was tasked with finding the tower, then finding the fallen angels to purify and bind them to a stone prison, where their souls would be imprisoned until the end of days.

Armaros is one of the fallen angels that Enoch must defeat and bind.

While Enoch has been searching for the Tower for about 300 years, Armaros was living in his section of the Tower in relative comfort, despite losing his voice and becoming Fallen. They were all seen as Gods, especially Armaros, who pandered himself specifically to appeal to humans. During his time in the Tower, he's held many performances, had many lovers and even sired some Nephilim, which...eventually just became one Nephilim (they're odd like that). And so it went until the scribe finally found the Tower and started to do what he came here for. Enoch managed to defeat two of Ezekiel's 'children', Sariel, a rampaging Fire Nephilim, and Azazel's twisted machines before getting to Armaros. It would be his toughest battle yet, but not because of the strength of his opponent.

Enoch has to fight and kill a good friend.

And so they fight...eventually, when Armaros gets around to it. Right before he's about to be defeated, Nanna, a blind girl who had been following Enoch around, is kidnapped by Belial and dragged into the Darkness. Enoch reacts immediately, of course, jumping into the Darkness to save her...while leaving everyone else behind and getting trapped himself. The Archangels are at a loss, Lucifel is completely thrown, and Armaros runs after him, trying to reach for where Enoch fell, grabbing at nothing before finally succumbing to tears.

Lucifel isn't directly allowed to interfere, and the archangels physically can't. Someone needs to save Enoch. And Lucifel knows who that someone is. It doesn't take much to convince Armaros to go fetch Enoch from the Darkness. All Lucifel has to say is that, since he can't directly interfere, he can't do anything, but Armaros can. He can redeem himself, see? Maybe have Enoch rethink some things...

Enoch needs him, after all. Yes. After this, things will be different! He'll rescue Enoch, perhaps get back into his good graces...they can be friends again. They don't have to fight. So Amaros dives into the Darkness. He witnesses human souls falling into the Darkness firsthand, barely manages to dodge various hazards and traps, fights off beings of the Darkness and finally makes it to Enoch, only to fight him again. He succumbed to the Darkness and was now fighting as Belial's servant. Armaros has to knock him unconscious so Lucifel can take him back to the real world, which does end up happening...except that Lucifel leaves Armaros behind. Enraged, Belial tries to trap them again, but Lucifel ends up escaping with his charge...leaving Armaros trapped.

Enoch doesn't see him again until a decade later, after he's purified himself in Heaven.

Even then, Armaros is barely recognizable. He's nothing more than a heart for what amounts to a swimming weaponzed mech. It's as if the vileness took his Dark Armor and amplified it to ridiculous levels. He kills Nether Azazel with one strike. Being trapped in the Darkness for a decade was not kind to him. And Enoch has to fight him.

Again.

This time is different, though. Not only is Enoch fighting for survival, he's fighting to get Armaros out of that moving prison. Every time enough damage is done, his attention is drawn to where Armaros is trapped. He's fighting to help his friend. And, after using every weapon he had and with help from Ishtar, Enoch does just that. Armaros is freed and he does his best to thank Enoch before disappearing, then Enoch tends to Ishtar before going to face Semyaza.

But Armaros isn't dead, even after the Tower disappears.

Personality: Out of all the other Fallen Angels Enoch encounters during his quest, Armaros is the obvious square peg trying to fit into a circular hole. The game hints at this the closer you get to his chapter. Out of the four encountered Fallen Angels, Armaros is the only one who doesn't randomly appear and try to knock down Enoch's health or berate and belittle him. In fact, the first time Enoch can encounter him before Chapter 7 is in an optional section called a Darkness Challenge. In it, he's stuck in a pocket of the Darkness and has to jump up these ledges to escape. At the top, a phantom image of Armaros is there to pull Enoch to safety (No, really, it says so right in the manual). How this phantom imprint of him is in the Darkness waiting for him is unclear, but the why is obvious. He'll always be there to help his friend.

Yes, friends. Armaros and Enoch had very close friendship before the Gigori fell to Earth, and it all started when he asked the new scribe about humans and life on Earth. Please note that it's implied that he's the only one of the Watchers (that we know of) to have the forethought to do this. Perhaps this is why out of all the others, Armaros doesn't cling to one single aspect of humanity and doesn't try to change them (for better or for worse). Instead, he tries to emulate humanity as much as possible while trying to be with as many humans as he can. Even the Freemen, a group of people who hate the Fallen Angels and everything they stand for and who resist them as much as possible, view Armaros as someone who can be reasoned with and who is the most likely to repent for turning away from God. Like Sariel, Armaros didn't want to go against God's will but wanted to go to Earth and be with humans. Unlike Sariel, he has a much broader definition of what it means to be human in the first place, due to his talks with Enoch.

Armaros is a person who is very open about his emotions...which is great, because he can't talk. After the fall, his voice was lost to the Darkness, replaced by an inhuman wail whenever he tries to speak, so he usually remains silent. It's all right, though, since he normally doesn't need to express himself with words. A simple facial expression can get the general point across, though if he has to be specific, he can always write out a statement or request. He doesn't even shy away from open crying, although it takes a lot to get him to cry, as he is normally a pretty upbeat guy. So, no bouts of tears at the drop of a hat. Armaros also tends to be very childlike, exhibiting an open curiosity (and naivete) about the world around him and being able to enjoy the smaller, seemingly inconsequential things in life. Unfortunately, this also makes him more trusting then the average person and it leads to the other Fallen Angels having an easier time of pressuring or guilting him into doing what they want. The Freemen take note that he has a 'pure heart', but one has to wonder if they just feel sorry for him more than anything else.

Finally, Armaros is an artist and entertainer. He always had a talent for the performance arts (specifically music and dance) and he's very athletic to boot. When the fall happened and he lost his voice, it made the entire reason he turned his back from Heaven in the first place (being with and interacting with humans) instantly more difficult because...he couldn't talk! How was he going to make more friends like he did with Enoch if he couldn't communicate? The answer to this question was revealed when he discovered that humans liked watching his dances. ...Really liked them. He found himself with plenty of human admirers, so...he accidentally discovered the concept of a fanbase. Being part of a group that was seen as physical gods didn't hinder this mentality either. It only took a little experimenting to understand that humans like really flashy, flamboyant performances, so he figured if he acted more flashy and flamboyant, he'd get more humans to like him. It's not the greatest logic in the world, but he did get a huge fanbase in the process. Because of this, Armaros got into the habit of making sure his appearance fit what appealed to humans. He wears flashy clothing, he shows off his body, he wears jewelry everywhere (he unironically wears a beaded veil), he has hair extensions... It should be noted that while Armaros tends to lean toward that direction of presenting himself, he took those tastes and ran with them for the sake of entertainment. Fortunately, he does understand the difference between a fan and a genuine friend. He does come off as aloof to everyone around him, but only to keep the Fans strictly just fans. It's not that Armaros doesn't like socializing. It's just enough for him to be surrounded by a lot of people who like him, even if it's for superficial reasons.

Armaros holds his friendship with Enoch in the highest regard, though, and can't bring himself to bond with other humans like he did with the scribe. Not even past lovers. Perhaps it's him putting Enoch and his relationship with him on a pedestal, but he found the idea that Enoch would still be his friend after they haven't seen each other for 300 years and Enoch is sent to basically kill him perfectly reasonable. Either that or he's in denial about the whole thing. Or both. Even though they do end up fighting, Armaros tries to stall it and as soon as Enoch is in trouble, he does not hesitate in going to save him. He does not want to abandon the relationship he has with Enoch because it's too special in his mind, too sacred. He wants it back, or to not have it messed with at least.

The truth is, Armaros doesn't understand that he's part of a group of 'Bad Guys'. He does understand that by fleeing to Earth and taking the Fruits of Wisdom with them, his group went again God and that's bad. He just didn't realize the full extent of what they had done until the end of the game, after all that he's seen and experienced. The fact that human souls in the Tower were being fed into the Darkness shook him greatly and, after being trapped in the Darkness for a decade and being completely enslaved by Belial, he wants no more involvement with anything involving that so-called Prince ever again. This includes everything involving the Tower. He's done. However, after he's saved by Enoch and then left on his own, but before he finds himself in Meridian, he has a choice. Armaros can either repent and try to get back into Heaven's good graces or live among humans naturally, not seen as a God but as one of them, in his quest to be more like the people he loves.

What will Armaros end up choosing?

Powers:
Double Jump-He can jump and then jump again off thin air. Handy!
-Attack Suspension-Armaros can also suspend himself in the air while attacking you.
Glide-He can soften a landing by gently gliding to the ground. Unlike Enoch, Armaros doesn't need the Arch to do this. It's inherent.
Energy Charge(to hands and feet, aura while spinning)-Honestly, this is the main reason why his attacks pack quite a punch. It gives his already superhuman punches and kicks more damage. He really doesn't need a Weapon of God to fight.
Enhanced Equilibrium/Angelic Grace-Whatever it is, there must be some secret to how Armaros can spin around faster than anything and deliver five blows a second without missing a beat and still keeping his balance. Perhaps his skills with dancing have something to do with it?
Short-Distance Teleportation(splash effect; solid ground or water only)-Armaros will only do this either when he's trying to get a head start to get away from you or when he wants to come close to break your weapon and/or your guard. As long as you have to fight him, he will make you fight like a gentleman.
Water Generation-Oddly, not nearly as silly as being able to generate Attack Bats, is it?
-Ice Bombs(boss)-Sometimes, Armaros will spin around and fling these around the area. It's better to dodge them, since touching them can lead to a small explosion that will knock you down. Oh, and if you're caught in the middle of them, he can set them all off as once. So enjoy that.
-Miniature, aura(player) A lesser version of the above that's more about guarding him from attack than outright offense.
Counter Stance(moonwalk)-Yes, that Moonwalk. This is less of a power and more of a technique though. It's how he guards and takes less damage from close range attacks.
Dark Armor-It's armor that he can summon up whenever he has to fight, although this may not work quite as well anymore, now that he's distanced himself from Belial's influence.
One with the Sea-Implied. Armaros is basically a Merman without the fishy tail. He can swim as well as any sea creature and can either hold his breath underwater for awhile or he can literally breathe underwater. The sea is his home and where he feels most comfortable.
Superhuman Stamina/Strength-He's an angel. A fallen one, but still an angel. In their sparring matches, Armaros curbstomped Enoch the first time just from his strength. As for the stamina, well, this is a person who didn't die while trapped in the Darkness and after fighting with Enoch for a final time, still wasn't dead. Armaros is hard to kill. Granted, he'll definitely be greatly weakened when he washes up on the city's shores, but he can always get his strength back. ...If he doesn't spend all his time in the Second Level.
Soul Projection-Implied. Armaros can project his soul as a target and sends them into a sleep state while interacting with them in their soul. The target usually feels light-headed before it takes effect. He never uses it, but the other Fallen Angels do this to Enoch all the time, when they randomly attack him and knock off a bit of his health before fleeing. Given the intent, no wonder no one ever sees him use this in game. If anything, it'll make it so he won't be quite as confused when wanders into the Second Level, but that's about it, seeing as how he never makes use of the ability.

Weaknesses: Sometimes your strengths can lead to and play into your weaknesses. This is especially apt for our favorite artist.

Voiceless-While on the First level, Armaros can't talk like a normal person. His voice was replaced by an inhuman wail whenever he tries to talk. It's going to be a chore trying to communicate with him, even if he does try to non-verbally get his point across. Because of this, he usually keeps quiet and to himself, even if he doesn't want to... However, on the Second level, he will be able to talk...he just won't really think to. He's so used to not talking that someone would have to outright suggest it.

Naive-Even after his time in the Darkness, Armaros still runs under the assumption that people are trustworthy overall, especially humans. It's not at any ridiculous levels. He's not going to believe an outright lie that he already knows isn't true. He's just easier to dupe than the average person. He has the naivete of a twelve-year-old.

Avoidant-Normally, Armaros hates conflict and does his best to avoid it as much as possible. This is great if you're the diplomatic type, but sometimes people need to hash out whatever conflicts they have out in the open. He is not the person to do that, and if anyone tries to confont him about whatever's wrong, he'll avoid the situation and the people involved, or at least try to stall what's coming.

Vain and Self-Conscious-Pride is a double edged sword. On the one hand, you have the strutting confidence and pride in appearance that one expects from an entertainer who mainly uses his body in his work. Armaros likes to keep up appearances, moreso than your average person. He'll try to dress up everywhere he goes, he'll show off more skin than normal, he'll take the time to do his hair and jewelry. He loves it when people fawn over him...when he's looking his best, at least. He's not going to look the greatest while he's on the First level and he is quite aware of this. Armaros is also well aware of any judging looks he may recieve, even if it's not due to looks and more involving behavior or how he acts around others. Humans can tell when something is off, and he'd hate to not have other humans accept him as one of their own. He may be slightly overestimating how harshly he's being judged.

Shameless Fanboyism-Armaros knows how to deal with his fans really well because he is a fan, in a way. It's not as bad as when he first heard about humans, but even today, after living among them for centuries, he's still fascinated by them. If he's able to talk to one of them, sometimes he'll catch himself asking personal, maybe even uncomfortable questions, or even making sweeping generalizations, even if they're all positive assumptions. He fancies himself as wanting to be one of them, and he's already very human-like, but he still has much to learn. Also, if there are other humans around, he'll tend to ignore non-humans that he already knows about. If you're humanoid and he doesn't know what you are though, he'll be curious and more than happy to interact.

Possessions: Armaros just washed onto the shores of Meridian with nothing but the tail on his back. Aside from some of his powers and the odd piece of jewelry in his hair, he has nothing and is starting from scratch. Perhaps it's for the best.

Marking Location: If he does get a marking, let's go with the back of the neck.

Miscellaneous: Armaros has a fully grown Water Nephilim. Unlike the Fire Nephilim, his child is completely harmless and loves humans and the world it lives in. It's like some cross between a whale and a jellyfish. And yeah, that's implying that it's the size of a whale. It's not in Meridian, though, but Nephilim are connected to their fathers, so who knows how long that'll last. At any rate, Armaros is going to be looking for his child first thing.

What he normally looks like can be seen in his user info.

Armaros is also going to be very weak when he first shows up. He just escaped from ten years of being sustained by pure vileness. He's going to be very exhausted, sick, confused and perhaps even malnourished. He may need some time recouping and some help along the way. Please be patient with him.

First Person:

[A very strange man is coming up to whoever is hanging around the Second level right now. It doesn't matter if he knows the person or not or if they were talking to someone else and they just didn't hide themselves very well. It doesn't even matter if the person in question doesn't look like he wants to talk to him at all. He is coming up to anyone he sees. He's teary-eyed, even though he has the biggest grin on Earth and looks like he's about to burst from the excitement.]

Hi! [His voice is a little light and airy, almost subdued even though it's just waiting to fully come out. And...he can't help it. Even just saying that little word makes him giggle and point to his throat, as if to say 'CAN YOU EVEN BELIEVE THIS?!'

Clearly this man is insane. Manic, but still insane.]

Hi! Hello! Shalom, Hola, Konnichiwa, Bonjour! Ahahaha!. Ahhh. [After a expectant pause that was expecting too much, the crazy person gives a faint nod and gestures to his throat again.]

Gift of Tongues. [Riiiight. Maybe now would be a good time to leave]

Third Person:

It's a quiet day at the grocers, but that's normal. This is one of the smaller places that apparently sprouted up in the industrial district. Probably around for the workers who would pass by on their way to their factories and maybe stop by later to get some lunch. It did have a delicatessen of sorts near the back. Even though the workers (or anyone originally living here) never stopped by anymore, this grocers never fails to be packed with food.

Few people use it now, but the selection is good, even if the food is...off. Maaaaybe something went wrong with the food, but who can say? Aside from taste, there was nothing to complain about, really. People get by. And hey, it's free, so why not take advantage?

Perhaps a couple of people are already shopping around. Maybe some are just coming in for the morning.

But a grown-ass naked man suddenly stumbles into this grocers. Yeah. Naked.

Honestly, there's not a lot to see here. What was sheer athletic potential has been reduced to a drained and exhausted frame. His ribs can be seen. One could probably count them. His arms involuntarily shake, too weak to hold themselves steady for very long. He carefully brushes off the sand still clinging to his brown frame before giving a onceover of his surroundings and hiding himself behind the bin of potatoes.

Can't be seen like this, can he?

As soon as a shopper goes on his way, the odd naked man leaves his hiding place to go further into the store. Maybe he came here to get a few things and leave quickly, buuut. His attention wanders. He finds himself staring at all the different types of produce gathered in one area. This is followed by the strange man trying to look at what's behind all the bins of produce, as if he's expecting to find a person behind each and every one. When that search doesn't bear any fruit, he looks on the adjacent walls, only to find products that his eyes skim over, not recognizing any of them.

A muted, high pitched whine escapes his mouth before wandering into the store...and bumping into the cart of a shopper.

Sorry about that.
